8 Awesome Nerd Songs

So athletes have favorite songs that put them in “The Zone” and pump them up. Don’t nerds deserve the same thing? With that in mind, here are eight songs that celebrate all things nerdy.

8. Iron Man by Black Sabbath

What’s not to love about a song named after one of our favorite Avengers? Plus, it has what’s probably one of rock’s most recognizable guitar riffs.

7. Thor by Therion

This uber metal song about the God of Thunder is kind of unintentionally funny — but check it out! You’ll enjoy it.

6. Face it Tiger by The MaryJanes/Married with Sea Monsters

So in the comics, there’s an alternate reality where Gwen Stacy has a band called the MaryJanes. And IRL band Married with Sea Monsters imagined what their hit single would sound like. The band also does the theme song for Marvel’s Women of Marvel podcast.

5. Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down

Oh, the angst of the late 90s post-grunge scene! It’s a song that asks the question, will you be there for me, both in the good times and the bad? And drummer/vocalist Brad Arnold supposedly wrote it in math class when he was 15!

4. Superman by R.E.M

A nice, upbeat song about a guy who feels like he can do anything – including win over the girl he has his eye on.

3. David Duchovny by Bree Sharp

For anyone who has ever had a Fox Mulder crush, this song truly speaks to your heart. It’s all about how Bree has totally fallen for the “secret agent man.” And the video is a walk down memory lane, featuring a lot of your favorite 90s celebrities.

2. Ring Capacity by Kirby Krackle

Kirby Krackle is a Seattle band whose name is a tribute to Jack Kirby. And this poppy song is an homage to Green Lantern.

1. Nrrrd Grrrl by M.C. Chris

M.C. Chris has a number of pretty excellent nerd songs, but this one really stands out. It’s about how Chris likes to date nerd girls who introduce him to their favorite fandoms.
